Intel Capital leads Investment in eflow

Plans to Expand Embedded Software Businesses for Intel-Powered Devices

April 22, 2010

TOKYO, April 22, 2010 – eflow Inc., the developer and provider of embedded middleware and networked application products and solutions, today announced that it has received an investment from Intel Capital, Intel’s global investment organization. Financial details of the investment were not disclosed.

eflow products can be found in mobile handsets (such as cell phones and Internet devices) and telecommunications equipment. The company has a proven track record developing Java™ technologies for next generation networking (NGN) infrastructure and browser technologies for multi-function peripherals and set-top boxes, and is involved in efforts to develop middleware for promising platforms such as Skype™, MeeGo, and Android™. In line with trends toward cloud computing, eflow is forming a framework specializing in one-stop solutions that integrate Java, browser and Skype elements to meet strict customer requirements.

The investment from Intel Capital will be used to accelerate eflow’s businesses for a wide variety of Internet devices powered by Intel® Atom™ processors and other Intel chips, including TVs and vehicle navigation systems. eflow also will work together with Intel to expand its overseas businesses in embedded solutions for consumers.

“The emergence of cloud computing is drastically changing our world. Not just PCs, but all types of devices are being connected to networks through which the cloud is created,” said Koichi Makabe, eflow Inc. CEO “The combination of Intel’s embedded processors and our software products make it possible for these devices to connect to the cloud. Capitalizing on this investment, we expect to enhance our relationship with Intel and accelerate the era of cloud computing.”

"As the number of digital consumer electronics devices and In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) devices deployed soars, the significance of embedded middleware and software grows," said Sudheer Kuppam, managing director, Intel Capital Asia Pacific. "This investment reinforces Intel Capital’s continued commitment towards accelerating market expansion by engaging promising embedded software companies such as eflow."

“Japanese companies are leading the development of digital consumer electronics and embedded devices,” said Kazumasa Yoshida, Intel K.K. president. “Intel expects embedded software developers with leading technology to play an important role by creating more attractive applications and services for Internet devices powered by Intel® Core™ processors and Intel® Atom™ processors.”
